Yeah, the city has gone downhill. Seeing our hometown usually just makes me sad now, because of how much has gone downhill there. Strangely I still enjoy showing friends around there, talking about the history and such. I guess the tourguide in me dies hard. Still, it would have been surreal if we had been neighbours again, no?Mattnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7954083667216359005.post-1569838816538448042010-10-22T13:29:50.607-04:002010-10-22T13:29:50.607-04:00YOU GO GIRLFRIEND! The very fact that you were wr...YOU GO GIRLFRIEND! The very fact that you were writing your comment at work just plain makes me happy.

That was a great comment, Steph. I thought it was very interesting when you mentioned about your new "perspective," ie; seeing your house and my family's house across the street, instead of the side-by-side view. I kind of had that too in a way, since sometimes I'd stay for lunch at my grandma's, and the walk felt like a WHOLE NEW direction than what I was used to.
That was a lovely story about the note you wrote for the new people, and so interesting. What you pinpointed were all the charming little things that make a house a HOME.
It reminds me of that scene in "It's a Wonderful Life" in which James Stewart is flying down the stairs, and once again that knob on the end ofthe banister comes off in his hand, but since he's so happy to be alive and back in his home, he kisses it before he puts it back on.karensomethingorotherhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14476544335741075497noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7954083667216359005.post-73962152261012049612010-10-22T11:22:50.928-04:002010-10-22T11:22:50.928-04:00please forgive the speeling adn errors...I have to...please forgive the speeling adn errors...I have to move fast...shhh..I am at workStephanienoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7954083667216359005.post-20732410342557017092010-10-22T11:21:53.101-04:002010-10-22T11:21:53.101-04:00Home, it IS a strange kind of word. We amde a funny transition to our "new home" After living with my parents for 29 years ( my huband and son for 5 of them as well) We bought Old Georges house...very strange...a house that pretty much creeped me out until i was 20. When we actually moved in (my daughter was a mere 2 weeks old) it took some time to get used to it..I kept asking Rich...when is this going ot feel like OUR home?? I had been in the same neighbourhood, knowing almost all the neighbours all of my life...I now had a very look on everything...I could SEE my parents house, I could SEE your parents front yard/driveway...and so on. It was so strange!!! I am not sure at point this happened but I can now walk though the door and sigh...home! Funny enough, I get the same feeling wehn I go to my parents house....sigh...Home!
YOu mentioned that you wanted to leave teh new lady moving into your "home" a letter telling her of your wonderful secret! You totally should have:) My confession is, when we sold my grandparents house ( this is going back 12 years ago..ouch!) I went into teh house one last time...I wrote a "letter" to the new person moving in...explaining in this letter, about the hidden room in fruit cellar, how to "really work teh kitchen cupboards" (long storey) and little other points of interest, adn how my grandpa built each room, sometimes 2 times over....I hid this letter in a wall in a closet...teh wall wasnt built up to the ceiling...just dropped it right in there....kissed teh hosue good bye adn never gave ti second thought....UNTIL one day my grandmas best friend came knocking on the door and after some small talk, she handed me a photocopy of this letter...WHAT! turnes out the lady, torn down every wall in thouse and foudn it...she kept it and passed this copy on to my grandmas friend. Turns out she thought it was best little treasuer she found in years. Who knew! Happy times!
My hubby and i lived in our first home for 10yrs where Sam was born. I still miss it but mostly because Sams baby memories are there.
If you where to ask Sam where home is he would say here...Vancouver Island. I just hope like you that we will soon have a home to call ours and to grow roots in. With the passing of my dad it put closer on callling Niagara home...it was time for me to start over.
It is pretty neat how you have your grandmas house and Peter has our grandmas house. Neat.Pamelahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08927138217537614502noreply@blogger.com
